Dr Rod Allen

Dr Rod Allen was inspired to become an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist during a placement in Armidale.  Subsequently, Rod completed his post-graduate studies in Queensland, having been lured here by the wonderful lifestyle the state has to offer.

Rod has worked in the major hospitals in South East Queensland, including the Mater Mothers,  Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital.  Additionally, the Roma-based Flying Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service provided valuable experience for Rod in the management of pregnancy and gynaecology surgery for women in remote regions.

As a father of five himself, Rod knows what it is like to an anxious parent-to-be.  He brings a special empathy and warmth to your fertility issues and your ongoing pregnancy journey.  He has a great sense of humour and has a special talent for explaining complex medical issues to non-medical people.

Rod’s passion for life is evidenced by his adventures to the remote regions of Antarctica on board the MS Explorer as the Assistant Ship’s Doctor.  He has undertaken six expeditions to Antarctica and was the first person to climb the South Western peak of Devil Island.  However, his most rewarding experience has been to be involved as a donor of platelets to assist children undergoing Leukaemia treatment.

Rod  provides fertility treatment as well as management of your ongoing pregnancy and ultimately the delivery of your baby.  His consulting rooms at the Mater Private Clinic are in immediate proximity to the Mater Mothers Private Birth Suite.
